Frequently asked questions
got questions?
Whether you’re considering martial arts for your child, yourself, or the whole family, it’s natural to have a few questions before getting started. We’ve put together some of the most common ones to help you understand what to expect from our classes, training, and community.

At what age can my child start martial arts?
We welcome children from 5 years old and up. Adults of all ages are also encouraged to join—it's never too late to start!
Do I need any experience to join?
Not at all. Our classes are designed for complete beginners as well as experienced students. You’ll progress at your own pace.
will my children get hurt?
Yes, we are a martial arts school that encourages our students to train hard and authentically. Sometimes this results in training related injuries. We focus on the combative elements of our martial arts and therefore people get punched, kicked, thrown and submitted all the time.
All of our instructors are experienced in dealing with these situations and are first aid qualified.
Do we have safeguarding policies?
Yes, all of our coaches attend regular safeguarding courses and the club runs its own safeguarding policies and procedures based the guidance set out on those courses.
What styles of martial arts do you teach?
We offer a variety of disciplines, including Kenpo Karate, Jujitsu, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Eskrima and ladies self-defence.
How often should my child (or I) train each week?
For beginners, we recommend 2 classes per week. As you grow more confident, you may choose to train more frequently.
Do I need to be fit to start martial arts?
No! Martial arts helps you get fit while learning. Our classes are structured to build fitness gradually and safely.
Will martial arts make my child aggressive?
Absolutely not. Martial arts teaches discipline, respect, confidence, and self-control. We emphasize using skills responsibly.
What should I wear to my first class?
Just wear comfortable sports clothing (like a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms). We’ll advise you about uniforms (gi/dobok) once you’re ready.
Do you offer family classes?
Yes, we encourage families to train together! Martial arts is a great bonding activity that children and parents can share.
How long will it take to earn a black belt?
Progress varies depending on your dedication and attendance. On average, it may take 4–6 years of consistent training.
Is martial arts safe for children?
Yes. Safety is our top priority. Classes are supervised by qualified instructors, and we teach techniques in a controlled and age-appropriate way.
Do you offer trial classes?
Yes, we offer a free trial class so you (or your child) can experience the training before committing.
How do I sign up?
You can register online, over the phone, or directly at the academy. Our team will guide you through the process.
